National Leadership Conference-Throw Back Thursday!

When I was a sophomore and Director of Sisterhood, I had the amazing opportunity to attend my first ZTA summer conference, Convention 2014! As a junior, I became President of my chapter and was able to attend NLC 2015 for the first time as Zeta Upsilon's official delegate! I was so excited to attend another National ZTA event and experience the difference between Convention and NLC.

If you are a collegian who has the opportunity to attend NLC this summer you should be very excited!

National Leadership Conference always takes place during the opposite years of Convention and is always held in Indianapolis, the city where our International Headquarters is located. The theme for NLC 2015 was "Strive for Greatness".

I was lucky enough to be able to attend NLC with my roommate, Sarah! We traveled together from Pittsburgh to Indianapolis. Our first stop was a tour of IO (International Office), which I was SO excited about! I couldn't wait to see where all the business and planning behind ZTA comes from--of course the tour did not disappoint!

my first tour of IO

When you get to IO you'll be able to see all kinds of ZTA history, meet so many of the amazing woman who help our Fraternity flourish, and of course get your picture with the Zeta Tau Alpha sign!

After our tour we headed to the Hyatt Regency to register for NLC, have lunch and meet our roommates! One of my favorite parts about ZTA conferences is that you get to meet so many wonderful ladies from around the country that love ZTA as much as you do!

When we arrived at our rooms we had our traditional door decs up that our Province Presidents made and we received treat bags! I also got to meet my roommate, Jenny from a chapter in Nebraska!

Zeta Upsilon delegates and our PP, Jess!

On our first day of NLC we met our new Province President, Jess Kosty and had our Province meetings. Our chapter is a part of Province II Gamma. At Convention 2014, I met a sister who became a close friend, Emily from the Delta Iota chapter (Clarion University) we were both alternate delegates at the time and we both ran for President of our chapters the following semester. When we came back to NLC we were official delegates and had spent the previous semester leaning on each other through hard times as president.

During our time at NLC, we were placed in a 'Great Group', hand-picked groups with other collegians that have similar chapter experiences and we had two great group leaders that assisted us through workshops and exercises throughout the week. It was such a fun experience and my group was amazing!

We started a GroupMe that week to stay in touch and ate most of our meals together. Even after NLC ended, we still used our GroupMe to communicate and ask questions or seek help for our respective chapters.

Besides our Great Group activities, we also had General Sessions about certain topics throughout the day to help us strive for greatness and become better leaders in our chapters!

My favorite session was on Creativity, we had a speaker, Gert Garmon come and talk to us about the importance of people skills and using creativity to keep our members interested and help our chapters become better than ever.

Another interesting thing that was done during NLC was 'Chalk Talk'; each day a new topic would be written on a large chalk board in the main area and sisters could come and write on it.

Another fun thing about ZTA Conventions/Conferences is that new and exciting things are almost always being announced or introduced! At this particular NLC we learned that IO is moving from Indianapolis to Carmel, IN. ZTA also had announced our two newest 'Think Pink' national partnerships: The American Cancer Society and Bright Pink!

One thing that every Zeta looks forward to is most definitely:

Crown Chapter Night!

Our chapter, Zeta Upsilon was installed in 1970 and since then had NEVER won Crown Chapter once. Our chapter worked so hard over the years to be the best that we could be in all aspects and all of our hard work finally paid off when we finally earned Crown Chapter! This still serves as one of my most favorite moments ever!

I had such a wonderful experience at NLC and I used my workbook and resources I received for months and months afterwards! And now there are so many things I can't wait to experience as a first time National Officer this year at NLC 2017!
