Boise State University Campus

So, I've been in Boise, Idaho for exactly 2 months and it is truly starting to feel like home! It's been nice to have an apartment and our own space that isn't the size of our suitcases.

I had a lot of fun decorating my bedroom at the apartment! It was tricky because we only had our suitcases and so I didn't have much with me to decorate and I didn't want to buy a bunch of stuff and have to leave it at the end of the year.

The Details:

  • Photos: I love taking pictures and I normally have them all over my bedroom; I got a polaroid camera for my birthday last year and I've been taking pictures at every visit and so I had a lot of polaroids to use for decorating.

  • Souvenirs: I've been collecting stickers, buttons and pennants from each chapter visit I've been on, I've had the souvenirs in my suitcase so I put those up on one of my walls.

  • Flowers: I really like having fresh flowers and plants in my room. The Boise Farmers Market was a great place to get bouquets but there are plenty of shops in town where I get flowers and bought my succulent!

  • Paper: Paper is cheap and can be thrown away when I leave! I bought some cardstock and made paper flowers for around my room. On Amazon, I found a paper map for $4, Sharpied on a quote and it went perfect with my travel theme!

  • Holidays: I've also really enjoyed having a space to add a little holiday spirit too! Happy Halloween!🎃

Boise really is a beautiful place to be, BSU's campus is large and always buzzing, the capitol building is in our backyard, and the mountains can be seen any way you look!

It's pretty cool to live in a place where you always want to stop and take a picture of your surroundings at every red light. The food here seems to taste fresher and it's hard to find a restaurant in downtown Boise that is in fact a chain.

my Favorite Places to {B}oise

We've gotten to explore so much of Idaho's capitol city and the surrounding areas in this beautiful state! These are some of my favorite places we've been and the best food I've had so far!

11. Pie Hole

Pie Hole is your typical college pizza place, but there's so much more to choose from than just your basic cheese and pepperoni! One of my favorite and unique "slices of the day" was the Idaho Potato and Bacon!

10. THE Green Belt

People in Boise...bike...A LOT, all over campus and the city! We have two bikes and so when the weather is nice we use the Green Belt, which is a long stretch of bike route that follows the Boise River and goes right through Boise State's campus!

It's really pretty and parts of the route is actually painted green; it's been a cool way to get around and explore a little!

☝🏻Here are some pictures from a few of my bike rides☝🏻

9. Fresh Boise Cafe

I've visited a few smoothie places here in Boise and had my first (second and third) Açaí Bowl and they are delicious and not to mention pretty!

8. Steelheads Hockey Game

Idaho doesn't have a professional hockey team, but they do have a minor-league team: the Idaho Steelheads! Kelley, Kaelin and I went one night and had really great seats right against the glass!

7. Big City Coffee

Big City is one of my favorite places in Boise! There is normally a line out the door on the weekends because the food is as delicious as the place is adorable. I normally get their Nutella Walnut Waffles with either a Pumpkin Pie or Almond Joy latte.

6. Guru D🍩nuts

A quiet coffee house I found with the tastiest and most creatively named donuts. I had the "Katy Berry" which was a cranberry donut with vanilla bean and white chocolate paired with a "Boise Inversion" which was an Idaho twist on a London Fog.

5. Boise Fry Company

"Fries with a side of burger"

We had been told by the colony members that we HAD to try Boise Fry Co and they were so right! Obviously, Idaho is famous for their potatoes and so the food was extremely fresh.

There were all kinds of potatoes to choose from along with tons of different dipping sauces and seasonings. All three of us loved the garlic aioli and I was brave enough to taste the pumpkin spice ketchup!

4. Table Rock

I've already written about Table Rock, but our first views of the Boise foothills and wild flowers on our hike were just so memorable!

3. WestSide Drive-in

As Seen on Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives

Kaelin and I stopped at a 50 year old Drive-In to try their famous "Ice Cream Potato". What else would the ice cream be shaped like in Idaho?

2. Albertson's Stadium Blue Turf

Boise State football is famous for their blue turf--we were so excited to get to watch the Broncos take on Nevada at the homecoming game!

1. McCall, ID Daycation

The Mountains are {McCall}ing

This past weekend Kelley, Kaelin and I drove to McCall, a former small logging area which has turned into somewhat of a resort town to explore Idaho a little more.

Our drive to McCall was absolutely breathtaking. A real "scenic route"; it was the first time I've ever been through a National Forest and I have never seen such beautiful natural scenery; the pictures really don't do it justice.

The trees and mountain peaks were so tall and expansive and you could literally watch the season go from fall to winter on the drive down Highway 55 (Boise National Forest).

When we first arrived in Mccall, we headed to a local diner called "The Pancake House" for brunch. I had a really delicious huckleberry crepe with handmade whipped cream and we tried their famous mammoth cinnamon roll!

Attached to the Pancake House were a few specialty shops including 'The Christmas House". I have been so ready to get into the Christmas spirit and so I loved getting to look around and picked out a new ornament for my tree at home.

We stopped at Lake Payette, which looked like a Christmas card, before heading to the Gold Fork Hot Springs. Such a cool experience, it was about 35 degrees and there were 5 different pools that the natural hot spring fed into.

Gold Fork Hot Springs

The closest was the hottest and each pool got progressively cooler as you stepped down the small waterfalls; even the coolest pool still was very warm, though! The water was really soft and had us relaxed for our drive back to Boise at the end of the day!

October Colony Update:

So much has happened since Bid Day with the newest ZTA Colony at Boise State! We started off with a group of women who were virtually strangers and now after many sisterhoods, colony meetings and a retreat these women have created a bond of sisterhood and started embarking on their first leadership opportunities within ZTA👑

Our First Sisterhood

Our first sisterhood was a PJ Paint Party on campus! Over 100 new sisters gathered to paint their first Zeta canvas to decorate their dorm rooms!

The Farmstead

Our first weekend as a colony, Kelley and I took everyone to the Pumpkin Patch in Meridian, Idaho. We took some great fall photos, drank apple cider, ate some mini fried donuts (we got the "Idaho Dozen" and they were all delicious!), and picked some pumpkins!

I normally go to a pumpkin patch every fall, but this one was breathtaking, all the usual fall sights could be seen: gourds, pumpkins, and corn stalks, but more importantly you could see the mountains everywhere you looked!

Making Strides Walk

One of ZTA's National Partnerships is with the American Cancer Society and so we participate in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks, specifically working in the Survivor Recognition tents.

It's a really cool experience to attend one of these walks and get to meet and hear stories from breast cancer survivors. It's an honor to be able to cheer them across the finish line and celebrate their lives! This was Boise State ZTA's first walk and it was fun getting to watch them all fall in love with our national philanthropy.

Totally Rad!

We rolled it back to the 80s, music and all at the Rollerdome for one of our sisterhoods!

Chapter Retreat

Our chapter retreat took place at a family fun zone; we did leadership, sisterhood and team building workshops in the morning, had a taco bar for lunch and then took n the ropes course and go karts! The ropes course was really fun but also a little terrifying!

Boise State ZTA, You're Stuck with us🌵

Lucky to have such great sisters

The colony's first formal was Casino Royale themed and I had so much fun chaperoning my first ZTA event with my consultant sisters!

I've been having such a great time in Boise, but I am very excited to be

home for the holidays in less than a week!
